Changes the shape and width and position of the nose.

Your nose, as a prominent facial feature, plays a key role in your appearance. A nose job changes the shape and width and position of the nose, which can have a dramatic impact on your look and how you see yourself.

Rhinoplasty surgery can change:

  • Nose size, in relation to the other facial structures
  • Nose width, at the bridge
  • Nose profile, with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
  • Nasal tip, that is large or bulbous, drooping, or too upturned
  • Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
  • Nasal asymmetry and deviation

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is a highly individualized procedure and you will work closely with your surgeon to determine the best ways to address your concerns and get you the results you want. Rhinoplasty not only results in cosmetic changes, but can correct breathing difficulties and restore a broken or injured nose to a more pleasing and proper alignment.

NOSE RESHAPING PROCEDURE

Normally performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with sedation, rhinoplasty can last between one and two hours. Conventional rhinoplasty methods include the open and closed technique.

During an open rhinoplasty, an incision in the shape of a stair step or inverted V is made along the middle column of your nose that separates your two nostrils, and includes range of other incisions made inside the nostrils.

A closed rhinoplasty involves the same technique as an open rhinoplasty, except there are no incisions made on the exterior of the nose. With this technique, all incisions are made inside the nose.

After the incisions are made, the skin is lifted and the cartilage, bone, and tissue beneath is sculpted and reshaped to produce the desired result. Implants, grafts, and/or cartilage may be used to build up tissue to achieve a nose shape that matches the ethnicity of the patient. The skin is then re-draped over the newly shaped area and secured with very fine stitches. Once the nose job procedure has been completed, a splint may be placed to help your nose keep its new shape. Soft absorbent packing may be used inside the nose to sustain stability and reduce post-operative bleeding.
